Pick the Right Mug
Choose a microwave-safe mug, because you’re going to heat it up in the microwave and you don’t want it to crack. Use a sturdy mug so that your brownies or mug brownies recipe won’t break and spill all over the place.
Plastic mugs are definitely not recommended, as they just won’t work at all. You can use ceramic or glass mugs – but only if they can handle extreme temperatures (up to 775F); otherwise they will crack.
Size Of a Mug Brownie
The size of the mug brownie recipe you choose will dictate the number of servings. If you have a larger, bowl-like mug, then the brownie will be bigger – which means more servings. If you use a smaller mug (such as an espresso cup), then there are fewer servings.
The recipe we have here is for a standard size mug and gives 2 good-sized servings.
Texture Of a Mug Brownie
The texture of a mug brownie recipe is quite different from a regular (baked in the oven) brownie. The baked-in-the-oven brownies are more chewy. But the mug brownie, because it’s microwaved, turns out much softer and almost cake-like.
How To Make a Mug Brownie In The Microwave
You can make your mug brownies recipe batter in the microwave. But first make sure you’ve got enough hot water in the mug so that it will be hot when your brownie batter is poured in.
You also need something to microwave your brownie mix with – either a bowl, a mug or a large cup. We like using this glass measuring cup because it’s all-purpose.
We’ve used it to reheat oatmeal and soup, so we can use it for whatever we need – and for this mug brownie recipe, it has been very handy.
Thoroughly mix all of the ingredients in a microwave-safe mug. Microwave for 1 minute. Let the brownie cool for a few minutes and then dig in!
How To Serve Mug Brownies With Ice Cream Scoopers
We love to serve brownies with ice cream scoopers – so here’s how to do it. First prepare the brownie batter – stir it well and let it stand for a few minutes until slightly thickened. Then fill a teaspoon with the batter and scoop it into 1-ounce portions.
Place the right amount of mug brownies recipe batter in a small, microwave-safe bowl. If you want to make one large portion, then use a 2-ounce scoop, or half of a 3-ounce scoop.
Microwave for about 20 seconds, or until the roof will thicken just slightly (remove from heat immediately if it’s too soft).
